With a new home and a new passion, We welcome legendary DJ/Producer 30HZ of Lot49 to our great city!
Hailing from Washington DC, USA, He left his native
country, friends and family for the dreary shores of the UK in 1998.
Here he found such a connection with electronic music and dance
culture that he decided to make the move a permanent one. As he
settled in to life in Bristol, he soon found himself working with a
number of local acts and artists, producing hip hop beats with an
electronic soul and trademark heavy drums. Soon he was drawn towards
the then emerging Nu Skool Breaks scene – and 30Hz was born.
Equipment, hardware and numerous analogue synths slowly filled his studio and
his knowledge of production sharpened to surgical precision. This
reputation for sonic excellence stands before him and 30Hz is now in
demand as a mixdown engineer for numerous top acts in dance music.
At the end of 2003, 30Hz founded the cutting edge breaks imprint
Vertical Sound . Originally an outlet for his own top-draw dance floor
bangers, the label quickly diversified to include other producers such as Smithmonger , Circuit Breaker , Baobinga & Id and release underground anthems such as The Body Snatcher's "Rip Shit Up", 30Hz & Vlad's "Get Low" which for weeks held the top position in Beatport's all around sales charts and 30Hz's 'No Man's Land' which found its way into the classic Xbox game 'Project Gotham 360'.
In 2004, 30Hz also co-founded the Dubstep label Tectonic which has gone on to be amongst the most respected labels in the genre worldwide.
Known for his quick-mixing bass-heavy DJ style,
30Hz has become one of the DJ's to look out for, lighting up
gigs across Australia, Europe, and North America – and performing numerous times on BBC Radio 1 including a live broadcast from London's Fabric on Annie Nightingale 's show last year.
2007 saw 30Hz sign to Meat
Katie 's Lot 49 imprint, and recorded a series of singles including the "Space Age EP", "Mutton" and his Remix of D Ramirez & Meat Katie's "Stop The Revolution". He then released his full length LP, "Electric Sheep", for Lot49 which was led by the vocal anthem "Daddio" featuring the vocal talents of Yolanda ( Bugs in the Attic, Massive Attack etc...) The LP demonstrates 30Hz broad musical interests and influences while keeping firmly rooted in the sound system experience.
Other projects include being one half of dynamic duo The Body Snatchers ,
whom have produced remixes for some of the leading lights of dance
music, such as Ferry Corsten and Krafty Kuts and have recently released an album with Aquasky's Passenger Records called ‘Feeling Good, Looking Nice, Smelling Right’. Also, Under the name P.
Dutty , 30Hz joined forces with Planet Mu's DJ Pinch in 2004 to
produce the bass-led Dubstep anthem 'War Dub' - which was snapped up
by Universal Pictures for their dystopian masterpiece and box office
hit 'Children of Men'. 30Hz has also recorded, a series of sub bass driven minimal techno singles under the name (emptyset) for the Future Days imprint. He has also launched a new techno / minimal house label Caravan.
