IF:IM - D-RANGED & REKTCHORDZ

PB: What are your real names and ages and where do u come from?
Rekt: I'm Jamie Smithson or jay if your hip, I'm 20 and I come from some 'cool' fishing village in Cornwall.
D-ranged: Benjamin Smithson and I'm 24
PB: Are u really brothers, or are you blood brothers from the lost boys ting when u were mates in the 80s?
Rekt: yeah, that the 80's thing! nah were from the goonies side of things. real brothers
D-ranged: brothers.
PB: How long have u both been producing?
Rekt: been producing since about 2001, think there was a bit of Ejay and music 2000 before that though, hahah.
D-ranged: five years or something like that.
PB:How did you get in to the bassline side of breakbeat?
Rekt: Mainly from the internet, I first got into meat katie and elite force etc, and then I just started hearing stuff that had more drive and D&B influences. I've always loved the grimey jump up sound, and the new tearout stuff really seemed to fit what I consider dance floor music.
D-ranged: I started making sorta bassline stuff before id heard any of it, then jay showed me breaks fm about a year ago and it went from there.
PB: What was your first release?
Rekt: My first release was an e.p on play recordings.
D-ranged: Clair’s journey and a love song on unstable.
PB:What tracks have u had out since then?
Rekt: a remix of skyline dreamer, grime vibration on unstable, couple of random remix that I've forgotten about and clowns under the name if:im out very soon on downbeat.
D-ranged: mental connection and hells hats on mechanoise, ambitions of a ghost and clowns on downbeat.
PB: What tracks have u in store for this year?
Rekt: loads!!...lojack on the bfm001, horror-fi and nothing more on transverse, a remix of no time on henryd's label bomtrax, remix of reality by the cerial killerz, remix of come and go by viro, streetslut and filth invasion are currently unsigned.
D-ranged: A forthcoming release on unstable, and loads of bits I'm working on including a tune with Rocka G.
PB: You have done collaborations with each other tell us a bit about them?
Rekt: If:im is the name me and my bro go under when we collab, we have worked with a guy called dean forrest who is amazingly talented at vocals and guitar.
D-ranged: only the if:im stuff, hoping to get more of that sorta stuff done this year.
PB:Have u done any other collaborations with any other producers?
Rekt: Not yet, I’m still on a roll with my individual stuff. But id deff be up for it in the near future. Me, Ben and grizzla have messed around on some stuff, but that usually consists of us taking the piss out of each other and trying to make human synth noises and grizzla singing to george micheal.
D-ranged: nah I haven’t done anything really but praps in the future.
PB: What other artists do you rate?
Rekt: control z, entity, autobots, phrenetic, far too loud, backdraft, anyone who is pushing the sound.
D-ranged: just the same as jay really.
PB:Have u any exciting gigs in the pipeline?
Rekt: bass pressure in Spain next month thanks to the big man frank bass which should be ace, and it’s on my 21st birthday sooo not sure if I’m actually gonna come back from that one. Thinking about promoting the scene in Cornwall a bit, and blagging Grizzla to start another night up.
D-ranged: hopefully after Spain we should be getting a few more gigs to play at.
PB: How come you can make breaks straight up for the dance floor we u haven’t ever been to a breaks rave b4 breakspoll this year?
Rekt: I’ve been to a quite a few, though I don’t think you need to see dance floors all the time to make dance floor music, tbh I find it completely obvious what makes a tune go down on the floor, I’m a fussy person soo I just make what I think id love to hear on a dance floor, and usually most people dig it. All dance music has similar aspects to what makes them work in clubs, so alot of my influences come from others genres of dance.
D-ranged: I grew up listening to dance music in clubs and soo I have a strong knowledge of what will work on dance floors.
PB:What’s ya favorite breaks tune of all time?
Rekt: I’m not sure really, I don’t have a best of all time but freq nasty -every posse and breakfastaz- spit it out stand out as being the most influential to me.
D-ranged: I'd say smack my bitch up by the prodigy, still a classic tune!
PB: What are your plans for the future?
Rekt: Loads more gigs, me and Ben have a strong load of tunes now, soo we need to get out there and show everyone what we’ve been doing for the last 2 years. Maybe start up a night, do more if:im work.
D-ranged: Get out and do more DJing, travel round a bit more, get more production done.
PB: And your shouts?
