Downbeat Productions NYC

With release after release of dance floor damage no Tearout DJ should be
without at least one Downbeat record in the bag. Platinum Breaks hit up
Downbeat main men: Ceos & Arcee for an exclusive interview.
1. What are your real names and age?
Rob Ceos age - 30 / Rich Arcee - age 29
2. How and when was Downbeat born?
Charlie Rankin, started Downbeat Productions in January of 2000. In the
hunt for talent for my new label, he came across some of the best
Stateside artists to hit the scene. Rankin first bumped into Arcee and Ceos.
He was impressed with their DJ skills paralleled with their hunger to
push the breakbeat sound. Not long after, he met Dino, a close friend of
Arcee and Ceos who soon became our graphic designer. Eskmo hooked up
with Downbeat a few years later, and we were floored with his DnB live
performances. Downbeat Productions is an ever-increasing name in the
nu-skool breaks scene. On this side of the pond, each time zone has
something different to offer. Downbeat is a New York-based label, offering a
heavy and dark feel to the Northeast. Until recently, the breaks scene
has taken a lethargic role in NYC nightlife in recent months the heavy
side of breaks has been developing strongly.
3. Describe the style of breakbeat you produce and play?
Tear out heavy business! We both feel the harder side of breakbeat,
it''s the aggression and production skill of the tracks that moves us!
4. What events have you played and what are your best events?
We''ve played all over NYC & the northeast as well as bombning the West
coast & uk alongside headliners such as Tipper, Napt, Jay Cunning,
Autobots, Cause N FX, Atomic Hooligan, DJ Quest ect ect.
5. Do you play on radio, if so where and when?
No, We haven''t got time atm.
6. What equipment to you use when you are playing out?
Two turntables / cdj / mixer, We''re not really into the hole laptop
thing. It began with vinyl and should stay vinyl, that''s the art of beat
matching, im mean really can u call yourself a DISC JOCKEY with no disc?
hahahahahaa!!
7. What are your opinions on the breakbeat scene in and around the
world i.e us, uk, spain japan etc?
It''s deff growing more & more each day.New artists are emerging onto
the scene with fresh new styles & more listeners are getting their ears
wrapped around the sound of breakbeat. It''s getting more recognition here
in the states as well, the nights are packing up and there are alot
more one offs/weeklies than ever before.I think the scene as a hole is
growing nicely, aslong as we keep pushing it foward.IT''LL BE MASSIVE!!!
